Migration from ESXi to Proxmox fails with "not enough space"

Hello everyone!
I am trying out Starwind V2V converter to convert VMs from old ESXi 6.5 to Proxmox 8.x, so far no luck . The vm in question is linux, 2 disks of 25 and 100 GB.

The issue I am facing is that the converter tries to create the disks on proxmox, but it fails with "not enough space". I fail to see how this is happening, since the target storage is "local-lvm" thin provisioned storage with 45 TB of space available. I tried to use both block and qcow2 migration options, but both fail with the same problem.

Does somebody face the same problem or can help?

Hi,

I just came up with this one.
Can you try converting the file to an intermediate host? It will need downtime because you will need to create the VM at the destination.

Could you please also tell me more about that 45 TB volume.
-how is it connected to the proxmox host?
-is it thin?
-does it support thin disks?

Hi!
I am trying to convert the VM from esxi to local computer, which seems to be working. I can only convert the 25GB disk though, because I don't have much space left.
The 45TB volume is a RAID6 volume directly connected to the server via a RAID card. Proxmox reports it is LVM-Thin and it can store thin disks, as I already have several.

Maybe the V2V converter needs enough space on a local machine to migrate between these 2 hypervisors?

Is there any chance for just an LVM (i.e., not thin)? I think this might be contributing to the problem.
No, V2V does not need space on the local machine.

Hello again!
I was unable to reply the last few days due to being rate limited.

I can absolutely confirm, that the storage "local-lvm" is LVM-Thin. If there is any other check, I can run it.

Thanks for your update. I have forwarded the input to the dev team. I am afraid you will need Proxmox Converter or converting to OVF for now.

Hi again!
I have wonderful news! I reinstalled the product with latest version and tried it again. This time I simplified even the name of the VM (just to be sure) and now it works. I sometimes run into an issue where the source ESXi will stop responding after each disk is converted, but clicking on Retry fixes it.
