Thanks, Oleg. Are you saying thin-provisioning and deduplication are no longer recommended?
Or is that just for my particular setup? In which case, what is it about the setup that means these nice features are not recommended?

Definitely, the features below are nice to have, but I am saying about issues you have faced and ways to resolve them.
There are some requirements and circumstances for using LSFS devices, which you have to follow. Please read this document.
Additionally, in case of StarWind service interruption, the LSFS device mounting process can take more time in comparison with a thick provisioned device, which also can be increased in this way.
