Proxmox Upgrade Controller VM to new Debian Controller VM 20260918

Congratulations on the new Debian 13.4 CVM.
Is there going to be a guide on how the offline migration works? In my set up I have a 2 node Proxmox 9.2.20 system. Each CVM have 2 PCIe 2Tb NVMe SSDs in a mdadm Raid array.
I'm not sure when to remove the NVMe SSDs from the old CVM and attach them to the new CVM? I'm not sure when the offline migration starts running the update and what should be attached to the old CVM versus the new CVM? I have checked your technical papers but there doesn't appear to be any update paper.

Well, bare-metal is a problem if there is no way connecting a new dist that will serve as an OS disk.
Bare metal will require OS reinstallation and running full sync/data migration.
CVM update is straightforward, I can guide you here if needed let me know the hypervisor you use.

Add a disk where the new OS will reside (30GB).
Hardware → BIOS: SeaBIOS → OVMF (UEFI) — accept the prompt to add an EFI disk. Leave Secure Boot disabled — it's not supported.
Mount the ISO and go through the wizard.

I'm assuming I'm not the first person to try this as "leading edge" is fine "bleeding edge" not so good.

Ubuntu 20.04 > Debian 13 transitions are OK. CentOS7 > Debian 13 might be tricky
One small hint: You will need to modify the rescan script inside the CVM afterward.

One last thing the existing Ubuntu 20.04 CVM that is being migrated to the new Debian CVM should it be running or stopped on the Proxmox host?

1. You shut down that VM to change the Hardware settings.
2. You attach the ISO and boot from that ISO.
3. Move through the wizard while the VM is running.
4. Shut down the VM, rearrange the boot order, and disconnect the ISO.

What's involved in the "full sync/data migration" for a single node? Is there a process for that? Or am I at backup data, install new OS, restore data from backup?
