Hello,

I have Windows Server 2019 and Dell PowerVault TL1000 that is recognized as IBM ULT3580-HH7 SCSI Sequential Device under Device Manager.
When i "Add Device (advanced)">Tape Device>Physical Tape Auto-Loader/Changer, device is not listed but if i select Physic Tape then device is listed.

Could you please help as to what needs to be done?

Thank you in advance,

Dimitris

Hello,
Did you install drivers for Dell PowerVault TL1000?

Hi Oleg,

Drivers installed are found automaticly from Windows OS.
I've isntalled Dell Suggested drivers that are IBM drivers

Version: 6.2.6.8 ,A20
Last Updated Date: 17 May 2019
File Name: IBM_Driver_6268_T10N5_ZPE.exe
File size: 3.08 MB
Description: IBM Tape/Library Driver Package version 6.2.6.8. These drivers are for use when specified by backup software vendors.

Still no detection by Tape Redirector.

Thanks,

Hi Dimitris,
Could you please make and upload the screenshots from StarWind Console of all steps and messages you are getting during adding tape autoloader?
Please also share with us the logs from StarWind Management Console and StarWind service itself.

You can use dropbox or any other similar service.

Hi,
It seems the issue is in the drivers.
From what we see the recommended DELL drivers are TL1000 Firmware Package A10 (https://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en ... age-tl1000), and IBM drivers are only for use when specified by backup software vendors, as stated on DELL website. Also, IBM ULT3580-HH7 is originally a single-tape device, so it makes sense that when using its drivers your DELL is detected as single drive and not as Tape Auto-Loader/Changer.
Please let us know if the issue will be fixed.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

We currently using auto detected drivers by OS and not Dell's.
Let me see if we can find different drivers as you have suggested.

Thanks again,

Hello,

Update:

I’ve found on another post that
a) tape library mode needs to be configured as Random and not as Sequential which I had
b) install install_nonexclusive.exe drivers which I did.

Now Management Console Identifies Tape Changer as below.

Image

By adding iSCSI target on our DPM 2019 server, DPM doesn’t recognize tape as library but as single tape drive. By checking iSCSI initiator further I’ve notice :
Target’s devices are two. By clicking on Lun0 there are no details, on LUN1 details are as shown below.

Image

DPM sees tape drive as single tape drive.

What is my next step to make it see it as library?

Thanks again,

Since you are getting disk -1 in the ISCSI initiator, it seems like the device is in use. Please double-check that the tape is not in use by backup application or any other software.
