We've configured a productive working 2-node cluster based on Starwind VSAN Hyper-V. The used trial license will expire at 27.12.2019. As we know from this forum, that the VSAN will stop working when the trial period ends, we now tried to install a permanent free-license for that installation. Unfortunaltey we receive an error message, telling "Free License can't be used after Trial License installation".
Does that mean we've to re-install VSAN and configure it again from beginning to be able to use the Free license? If someone could give us a quick hint, this would be very appreciated as the time period ends soon and we've now to decide how to proceed.

Hello Martins,

Unfortunately, it does not help you.

You need to reinstall the operating system, also you need to backup starwind.cfg file. After reinstalling the operating system and install the StarWind Software you need to stop the Starwind service, replace starwind.cfg from backup and run the Starwind service again.

You can read the Licence Policy at the link below:

Hello,
re-installing the OS would bring us now in big trouble, as it's a productive system already and now Christmas is coming.
Is there another alternative either first to maybe extend the trial period to get some additional time and then find a solution or can you offer help in that case in another way?

Hello,

In this case, you need to contact your account manager, who gave you the trial key.

Hello Serhii,

thanks for the hint.
Now that some holidays are coming up, it would be very helpful to appoint us a contact person who is actually present for this purpose.
Thank you in advance.

Hi I have experience the same, it is my first time using starwind and did not really know the policy.

Is there another way than reinstall the OS then install the starwind again?

Regards

Doni
