Hello, I'm using Tape Redirector to make use of an Tandberg USB-RDX-drive, that is attached to an HyperV Win2016-Server, inside a HyperV-Guest with SBS2011. The drive is shared in drivebridge-mode in starwind.
My problem is, that the Guest-OS does'nt recognize, if the RDX-cartridge was changed. I have to stop and restart the starwind-service on the host, only then the new cartridge is visible to the guest. Is there any trick or did I miss a setup step to avoid this service-restart?
Best regards, Frank

Hello Oleg,

sorry for the delay, I had no information about your answer and only today I was actively logging into the forum and found your message. I collected the logs as adviced and tried to attache it here, but got an error "The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 256 KiB.". The zipped file generated by your tool has 1,4MB. Do you have another upload or can I send you an Email?

Best regards, Frank

Hello Frank,
I have checked the logs.
Yes, that is expected behaviour. StarWind opens drive to make it accessible over ISCSI. When the disk is being changed, the client still has "old" disk open until the service is restarted.
This can be solved also by reconnecting ISCSI sessions to the target. It will close the disk with last sessions disconnected and re-open it when the first new session arrives.

Hello Oleg,
thank you for the information. I expected it a little more "automatic", because classic tape drives also contain changeable cartridges. So in my opinion a "tape redirector" has to deal with cartridge changes all the time. Anyhow, if I restart the starwind service it will actualize the cartridge, right? Or do I have to restart the initiator-service on the client-side, too?
Best regards
Frank

Frank,
For tapes, we have a little bit different mechanism than for drivebridge.
Correct, that should work.
