I am trying to convert a VMDK to VHDX. I am doing this with a locally copied VMDK since vSphere 6.5 is yet to be supported.

When I get to the portion of where the VHDX files are to be stored it gives me the local disk of the Hyper-v host. Is it possible to save the converted files to a file share? We are using file shares for our storage in hyper-v....not the local hyper-v disk.

thx

You should be able to save the converted files to a file share. You need to assign a letter to this share in order to have this possibility.

We mapped a drive to the hyper-v host trying both "net use" and "New-PSDrive" making the drive persistent. No go. We can still only see the Local Disk under the Datastore section of the hyper-v host.

Thoughts?

You can also try to start V2V from Hyper-V host and try conversion in a local file. The share should be available in this way.

We are running 2016 Core. I'll see if the app will install and give it a shot.

The application installs properly on a Windows 2016 core server. I ran a conversion from the 2016 server where the file share exists and it still only shows the local disk (C:\).

Ideas?

Could you please run Diskpart tool?
What is the result of List volumes?
Please share the results of this command, are you able to see the letter of share?

Good morning, Oleg. When I run a list volume in diskpart it only shows 2 volumes...0 & 1. That is the c:\ drive and the system reserved drive. It doesn't show the persistent drive that we created (location of where the VM needs to go).

I have passed this information to our R&D team for checking.

Hi,
Yes, I have news. This possibility should be added to the next build of V2V converter, should be released till the end of this month.

That is great news! I will be a huge benefit to those that have large server blade farms with very little local disk. Thanks for all you guys are doing!

Good morning, Oleg. I'd be more than willing to test out a beta version of the software to make sure that the ability exists to use file shares. Let me know!

thx
