hi, I just converted my .vhdx file to .vmdk and was wondering why did I get two files out of one? Like one says "flat" at the end, for instances, "CHAPTERZ-PC" and the other says "CHAPTERZ-PC-flat"

Hello jallen213

If the original VHD file was called this:
beta.sas.vhd

V2V Image converted created these two files in case when you have some issues with free space on drive.
beta-flat.vmdk (the big binary data file)
beta.sas.vmdk (the small text descriptor file)

In some other cases (like hard shut down) small text file can fall out from joint file folder.
Because of this you see both files. In yours case this can't effect on final result
