Hi,

I just tried to convert a 28GB .vhdx to .vmdk, but V2V thinks the .vhdx file is 127GB in size and so predicts that the .vmdk file will also be 127GB and as I don't have that much space on my hard dirve it won't proceed. Is there any way around this?

Cheers, Alistair.

Was there an update to this? I am seeing the same issue. Trying to convert a 19GB .vhdx to .vmdk but V2V says the .vhdx is 250GB.

Make sure you use the most recent version as AFAIR we did fix something here. Either way I'm bringing developers attention to this thread...

This issue occurs when source image is thin-provisioned. V2V Converter checks free disk space using full size of virtual disk.
We are fixing this behavior in upcoming update of V2V Converter.
Unfortunately, there is no workaround except using destination path with free space large enough to pass the check.
Best regards,
Alexey.

This seems to be an issue in version 9.0.0 build 110, downloaded today May 14, 2019.
4 years from the last post.
I suppose an update is not in the plan.... but thanks for providing tools to the community.

tgbrownie,
Could you please clarify how you are converting the file and share the V2V converter logs with us?

Thanks for your reply.

The file being restored is ~61 GB
It was created by disktvhd

Directory of E:\Downloads by Jim\SystemInternals\Disk2vhd

05/10/2019 12:13 PM <DIR> .
05/10/2019 12:13 PM <DIR> ..
04/20/2019 04:14 PM 40,717 Disk2vhd.chm
04/20/2019 04:09 PM 7,134,400 disk2vhd.exe
05/10/2019 12:03 PM 61,105,766,912 TGB.VHDX
4 File(s) 61,112,949,034 bytes
2 Dir(s) 922,141,913,088 bytes free

V2V would not continue because it determined 922 GB free was not enough.
The original size of the disk being imaged was 100 GB I believe.
Here is the log file contents....

Thanks for the provided information.
It seems that you have tried to convert a file with ESXi Server image option and save it locally. In order to get a converted file in such format, you have to get a connection to ESXi host and convert file there.
In case you need a file for VMware Workstation, just choose Vmware Workstation growable image option.
