After upgrading to version 8 of starwinds (tape redirector) I have had issues with tape drive 'dropping out', error 1167. I have also upgraded to windows server 2012 R2. The previous solution was running on windows 2008 R2 with the tape redirector from July 2013.

So I have a Gen8 HP server with a p212 array card conected to 2 HP 2024 changers, one changer has 2 sas lto3 tape drivers, the other has 2 sas lto5 tape drives.
The backups (zmanda 3.7) run ok, just after a 'random' period of time the bakups fail and the error logged in the starwind management console is
11/18 10:03:11.370 1f10 SPTI: '\\?\scsi#sequential&ven_hp&prod_ultrium_5-scsi#5&112d8fbc&0&070200#{53f5630b-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}': scsiPassThrough failed: The device is not connected. (code: 1167)
From here I am can flush the remaing backup to the next tape which may or maynot succeed.

Any ideas?

Hi!
Sorry to hear you are in trouble. Few questions:
1. Have you seen such behaviour before upgrading?
2. What has been done before the issue happened?
3. Could you please verify that nothing else except StarWind is using ports 3260 and 3261?
4. Would you be so kind to share the logs that cover the time of the issue with us?

Thank you!
Best regards,

1. No this did not occur before upgrading
2. the virtual server that connected to the iscsi targets was moved to a new hyper-v server. The original hyper-v server was reimaged to windows 2012R2 and virtual san 8 was installed. The virtual server was moved back to the original server are iscsi reconfigured to point to the new iscsi targets.
3. I dont believe anything else is using port 3260 or 3261. The windows iscsi initiator is disabled.
4. After a reboot and updates last night most of the iscsi tagers are showing up with question marks on them. In the past i have deleted and readded them in the starwinds management cosole before continuing.

the logs look like this
