From a VMware ESX Server 3i, I did a Virtaul Appliance Export of a VM, which resulted in two files: a small .OVF file and a large .VMDK file. When I have Converter open the .vmdk file, it gives the following error:

Invalid file format (10)[0]
Not all descriptor fields are present

Is that any way I can get around this issue? Alternative converters? The vmware software is from 2009 so it seems strange that it would have a vmdk format that is not yet supported.

Thanks,
Robert

I must say that unfortunately we do not work with that file format. Probably we will in the future but I cannot say exact dates.

Thank you

I need to convert the snapshot image (including the consolidation of the base HD image) to a VMDK file. The converter interface does not allow me to pick the .AVHD file which is my snapshot.

Hello,

Unfortunatelly we do not support this file format too. Maybe we will in the future. Stay tuned.

I think it might gladly work in Linux. You might want to use a virtual machine if you wish or just change the OS. But I would prefer using a virtual machine to run Linux. I do not think there will be any issues in Linux. I hope this helps.

We'll be updating the Converter in a couple of weeks closer to V8 of StarWind released. This issue is expected to be on the fix list. FYI.

Any updates on this?

I just tried to convert a .vmdk extracted from a .ova and go the "Not all descriptor fields are present" error.

If there is a new version (or beta version) that solves this issue, please let me know.

Thanks.

Unfortunately we haven`t released it yet. We should have something in the end of the May.
