Dear Beta-Team members,

Currently our Dev Team is working on the Tape Redirector product, which allows you to export tape drives and media changers as iSCSI targets over the network and connect them on remote machine.

The beta version is available for download from the following link:

http://www.starwindsoftware.com/beta/bu ... 302010.exe

and the license you can download from this link:

http://www.starwindsoftware.com/beta/bu ... a-Team.swk

Note: it uses tcp 33268 port for iSCSI communication, and tcp 33269 port for management console purpose. Therefore to start its management please specify 33269 port instead of 3261. To connect the exported targets with MS iSCSI initiator specify IP address of tape redirector machine and 33268 port instead of default 3260.

Known issues:

Management Console: Exporting "Add Export tape auto-loader/changer device" shows Tape drive symbolic name instead of auto-loader on the summary page.

Core: Tape drives are exported with clustering option enabled.

Management Console: contains StarWind iSCSI SAN Software Help

Installer: contains StarWind iSCSI SAN Software EULA

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.

Let us remind you that StarWind started open beta testing program and the most active beta testers will win monthly prizes from StarWind: iPads and coupons for $100 from Amazon.com. The names of the first winners will be published on our beta forum page in the end of July.

I installed Tape Redirector beta today, and tried to install the License File, but got a message "Invalid License".

Not sure what to do now ...

Actually the Tape Redirector Beta program is closed, but I have sent you the key. AFAIK right now the way to release this product is being discussed.

Yes, we'll be releasing this build as "gold" pretty soon. But your feedback should be accepted in any case.

Using this with success on Win 7 x64 looking forward to the eventual official release.

Recently had a problem on Windows XP client after updating MS iSCSI initiator.

NTBACKUP failed with the following error:

The device reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported: Invalid command. There may be a hardware or media problem. Please check the system event log for relevant failures.

Eventually I found the forum post about SPTI that mentions MaxBufferLength. I changed this from 0x40000 (256kB) to 0x10000 (64kB) as suggested, however I'd like to know what my hardware will actually support under Win 7 x64, so I can set this to the best value.

Is there a utility that will report this information?

Thanks

Use http://www.starwindsoftware.com/tmplink/PResTest.zip
Example:
PresTest.exe \\.\Changer0
PresTest.exe \\.\Tape0
