Some of our customers found a solution to StarWind + HPUX iSCSI initiator (which does support very limited number of iSCSI targets). Also he was kind enough to share his know-how with others. Thanks, Mark!

I just wanted to let you know I was able to get Starwind working with the HPUX initiator. I worked with HP support and they uncovered a bug in their initiator software which will be fixed later, but here are the steps below to get Starwind working with HPUX initiator software. Please note that none of your targets can have a non standard iqn alias name (I had one as iscsidisk001). I had to remove it and set it back up with the iqn name.

In Starwind - create an imagefile target (no alias on any targets) and set a local name and secret for CHAP

On the HP run iscsiutil and get the target name.

Change the authmethod to CHAP,None for the target

Change the authentication to CHAP_UNI for that target

Use iscsiutil and add the CHAP username and password the same as in Starwind for that target

Run ioscan - It will not find the target

Go to Starwind and remove the CHAP name and secret from that target

Run ioscan back on the HP. It will connect to the target and logon!
