Hi,
I've installed two VSAN Free nodes and one witness.
But when I try to run an update through the web GUI, I get the error: "Update Failed: Bad Gateway."
I don't know what happened or what the problem is.
Can anyone help me?
Best regards,

Hello JULDSI,
Thank you for choosing StarWind VSAN Free.
Could you please generate a support bundle and submit it using the following form:
https://www.starwindsoftware.com/support-form.
For the subject, please use "VSAN Free Update". We will review it and investigate if there are any issues.

Hi,
What is the current StarWind VSAN version in use? According to the release notes, the latest one is 19551
https://www.starwindsoftware.com/release-notes-build. If you are running 19551, the update might not work.
Also, can you please see if your network allows downloading the software? Try to wget something (e.g., sudo wget
https://ovf.starwind.com/tmplink/starwi ... 551.tar.gz --no-check-certificate) into the VM.

Thanks for your update.
Please navigate to the logs of /opt/starwind/starwind-virtual-san/drive_c/starwind/logs and open the latest file. The top line should highlight on the VSAN build.
Also, did you try downloading a file from our website in the CVM?

Ok, thanks
I have another question, when i make apt update and apt upgrade, i have a lot of packets can be updated, can i make this update without any risk ?
Same question i see it can be possible to make a dist upgrade ? it's more risky ???
Updates must only done with web gui ?
Thanks for your "lights" about the process.
Best regards,

You are welcome

Honestly, I won't do that as there's a chance to update to a not stable kernel version. Also, the updates can pile up and fill /, leading to an unbootable VM.

Thanks for your answer.
Best regards..

Hi,
The repo is available and I was able to run the updates recently. I guess there might be some restriction on your network.

Thanks for your answer, so it's normal that on the GUI installed version is empty ?

Ifthe issue happens if you have network issues (e.g., dns or gateway), or you have restriction that blocks the 80 and 443 ports for internet access in CVM.

So i have an appliance has a witness and update is good (i see installed version and i can check the update)
When i check the starwind_updater.log on the witness i see some good info like ip adress gateway and logs which ask about the update "compare version..."
On a Vsan Node the starwind_updater.log the log loop on :
[OpenSSLHelper]: Start gets IP addresses.
2025-11-05 08:43:45.277 00007 INFO | [OpenSSLHelper]: IP address was found: 169.xxx.xxx.xxx
2025-11-05 08:43:45.277 00007 INFO | [OpenSSLHelper]: IP address was found: 192.xxx.xxx.xxx. (Management)
2025-11-05 08:43:45.277 00007 INFO | [OpenSSLHelper]: IP address was found: 192.xxx.xxx.xxx. (Replication)
2025-11-05 08:43:45.277 00007 INFO | [OpenSSLHelper]: IP address was found: 192.xxx.xxx.xxx. (Data)
2025-11-05 08:43:45.277 00007 INFO | [OpenSSLHelper]: End gets IP addresses.
2025-11-05 08:43:45.277 00007 INFO | [NetworkConfigurationLinux]: Setup VM current IP address is: 169.xxx.xxx.xxx
2025-11-05 08:43:45.277 00007 INFO | [NetworkConfigurationLinux]: Setup VM IP address is from Zero Config (Bonjour) pool. Can't use it.
2025-11-05 08:43:45.277 00007 INFO | [NetworkConfigurationLinux]: Correct Setup VM IP address is not available yet. Waiting for IP (30 seconds)..
So if it use the 169.... and not he management ip....
=> the witness has only one ip.
Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
