Starwind 2.4.2 and MS iSCSI Initiator 2 Troubles

Hello,
I've got the above setup on Win2k3 EE in a Virtual Server 2005 R2 environment.

Starwind is running on a 2k3EE DC, and I have 2 EE domain members running the iscsi initiator. I am able to add the host on my member servers, but I'm not able to connect to any targets.

Below is a cut and paste from the starwind log file, set to verbose logging:

Can anyone shed some light on this, or tell me what I've done wrong?

Thanks,
Tim

Upgrading to StarWind 3.0 should solve your problem.

Do you know what causes things to break down? I had this working on 2003 prior to SP1 and using the 1.06 MS initiator.

I would like to upgrade, but the 2.4.2 version allowed me to present storage to multiple hosts while remaining legal. I'm doing a clustering proof of concept.

Thanks,
Tim

Yes I do. It's MS iSCSI initiator. These guys added ERL2 support for version 2.x and also changed handshake in the way old iSCSI targets became incompatible with the new code.

I don't understand what do you mean under "while remaining legal" in the content of the differences between 2.x.x and 3.x.x versions...

Well, the 2.4.2 version was free for non commercial use, and would allow 2 targets to access it, as I understand it.

With 3.0 I can't do the same. Or can I?

Thanks,
Tim

They both are not free any more.

Hmm. Ok. Becuase my log files say 'FREE NON COMMERCIAL VERSION'.

Moot point I suppose since I'll have to use VS 2005 to share disk resources.

Stick with the old version of StarWind and old version of MS iSCSI initiator. Since you're not working on the production environment I don't see why it should be a problem.

Yeah, that may be the route to go.

Thanks for the late night reply.

Installing StarWind 3.0 and asking for long-time evaluation key is another one.
