vSAN Free - Installer "Error 31" Checking License Key File

Hi all!

Very excited to get vSAN Free installed and try it out, but on our Windows 2022 (Standard) server we get "Error occurred while checking licence key file. Error Code: 31".

Has anyone else had this issue?

I tried to install it on our 2019 server and that worked fine (not that we are intending to use it on that server) so maybe this is an issue with 2022. Antivirus is the same on both servers, and have disabled it and tried again (same result).

Used Process Monitor to trace what was going on (was wondering if it made a network request that was being blocked) but can't see anything blocked - saw a process swschk.exe spawned which seems likely to do the check but I couldn't see any file etc accesses made but that process obviously being blocked or files missing etc.

May try a Win server 2022 VM next and if that works reinstall windows on the (physical) server to see if that helps...

Try uninstalling the antivirus and restarting the server.
Can you repeat the test with an empty VM?

Uninstalling the AV did indeed resolve the issue (Trellix/McAfee Endpoint Security/ATP).
