Hello,

we have 3 nodes hyperv connected to a single StarWind VSAN and we are planning to add a secondary VSAN and enable the replication/sync with the primary VSAN.

Other than affecting the performance during sync/replication between vsan1 and vsan2, is it recommended to start the storage replication while the VMs are connected to the primary VSAN?

what is the best practice configuration to add the secondary VSAN without going offline?

Thank you,
Regards,

For HA devices, you can start replication without bringing down the VMs.

Before I started the sync job (replication), I was warned that there must be no iSCSI connections active to the primary vSAN. If all iSCSI connections are still active and the VMs are running, how risky is it to start the sync job?

This does not look like a replicated device. This warning shows up only for non-replicated devices.
The warning says that there are active iSCSI connections and there might be an outage for the storage. Shut down the VMs prior to replicating.

so I shut down the VMs and initiate the replication. Can I start the VMs while the replication job is on?
