In the web console, the appliance warns that you need to place the datastores into maintenance mode, I assume putting the hosts into maintenance mode does the same thing, but I'm not sure what to do with the host running the SAN/NAS appliance as a VM. Is it sufficient to shut down the VMs on the host running the SAN appliance and then shut down the appliance?
The reason why I'm concerned about my shutdown order is, that I have to refresh the software iSCSI adapters to see the iSCSI-backed datastores after I start the host and the SAN appliance.

Another question: is it possible to configure the VASA provider on SAN/NAS Free to take advantage of vCenter Server vvols?

Thank you for the help.

Are you running SAN and NAS software or StarWind VSAN for Hyper-V?
See more about Maintenance mode https://www.starwindsoftware.com/help/M ... eMode.html. Are devices replicated? If not, shut down the guest VMs and just shut down the appliance. If they are, see the shutdown procedure at https://knowledgebase.starwindsoftware. ... installed/.
Make sure the system fulfills system requirements https://www.starwindsoftware.com/system-requirements

Sorry, this is SAN/NAS Free. I should have made that clear upfront.

No worries.
StarWind SAN & NAS does not feature HA capabilities so far. You need just shut down the guest VMs and shut down the StarWind SAN & NAS VM afterward.
Let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with.
