In StarWind SAN & NAS, if a standard hard drive (stored on a datastore) is added to the StarWind SAN & NAS VM, why does Hardware Raid show as not applicable in the drop down for Pool layout, when creating a pool?
Thanks

Hello Jase,
Could you please clarify, what is a standard hard drive (stored on a datastore) you are using? Is it a virtual disk (VMDK)?
If it is a virtual disk, such as VMDK, VHD, and VHDX, it is identified by the system as such. The "Hardware RAID" layout is allowed to use for the appliance which has a hardware RAID controller attached.
For virtual disks attached to the VM, you can create and use only software RAID devices (MDADM or ZFS pools).

It is a virtual disk (VMDK) attached to the appliance VM. So, it looks like MDADM\RAID0 would make the most sense to use in this case, since ZFS is not needed.
Thanks for clarifying.
