Recently I needed to do an emergency shutdown of our cluster (power failure, running on UPS), and I did it by simply using the Windows server shutdown procedure.

When I started the servers later, StarWind had to do a full sync. I know that there is a recommended procedure of stopping the StarWind services first, which should make a full sync unnecessary, but I didn't have time to go hunting for that.

So here's my question: Isn't there some way to automate a safe StarWind VSAN shutdown so that, if necessary, host servers can handle this automatically? It would seem to me it should be possible to have a shutdown batch script or something. I looked, but maybe I missed it.

Thank you for your question
Put devices into maintenance mode (StarWind VSAN for Hyper-V): https://www.starwindsoftware.com/resour ... owerchute/ please note that it is a sample script: you need to add the part where you shut down the VMs on your own.

Thank you Yaroslav. That's a start.

Here's something that aligns to what I have in mind. I would suggest StarWind provide at least a template script that could be used with Windows Group Policy, as in Local Computer Policy | Computer Configuration | Windows Settings | Scripts (Startup/Shutdown).

Hey Ken,

Thanks for the links. Is there anything I can assist you with?
P.s. MS docs are 404 pages :(

Thanks Yaroslav, no, unless you have anything else for this, I can take what you sent to see what makes sense for my needs.

Re the MS docs... yes, that sounds like them. They love to make a short story long. ;-)
