Hi,

I wonder how Starwind utilize the sync channels. Formerly I thought that the total utilized throughput(!) of the sync channel are more or less equal to the sum of all available sync bandwidth (assuming the sync channels have the same speed and the storage is able to handle the I/O).

But from my observations it seems that the sync channel are more used in a round robin way. E.g. the throughput of 5x 1Gb/s sync channels doesn't exceed 1Gb/s in total.

So if my observations are correct are there any benefits of more than 2 sync channels except a higher redundancy?

2 NICs can be used for redundancy. There is no real benefit of using numerous sync links for now. Yet, the main thing to be taken into account is how active the environment is. Of course, if you've got fast storage and 10Gbps iSCSI connections with dozens of VMs running in cluster storage you'd definitely be bottlenecked by those two 1Gbps sync links.
