I am about to build the following:
Physical box #1 - ESX 6.7
Physical box #2 - ESX 6.7

They will be controlled by VCSA.

I'd like to do shared storage and so have a dedicated 3rd physical box for Starwind vSAN Free Edition. It comprises of:
1 x SSD for Server 2016
10 x 1Tb SSD's for VM storage for ESX hosts above

No RAID setup, just the SSDs attached to a controller card and motherboard. This is for a home setup and data recoverability is preferred but not essential.

When setting up the SSD's are there best methods? I see there is the option to add them as physical disks and present that way or set them up as virtual volumes..

Any suggestions welcome!

I would suggest you create virtual volumes from SSDs and present them into the cluster.

Thanks Oleg, I shall go that route. I've been doing some more reading since and there seems to be a lot of differences (all positive) for using virtual volumes!

I have had a mishap but will put up another post about that.
