Hi all, I'm having some issues after some patching on my test server and I'm hoping someone can help me out.

Specifications:
OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2012R2
Original StarWind Version: 8.0.0.8198
Current StarWind Version: 8.0.0.11456
Raid controller: Adaptec 6805
RAID: (8) Disk RAID 6
RAM: 16GB
CPU: AMD FX-8320 (8-Core)
Network: (1) 1Gbps NIC

Situation:
I currently have a target with two lsfs devices and both devices now fail to mount. Leading up to this point - I installed 4 patches via windows update (KB4041085, KB4038792, KB3011780, and KB3067505) and allowed the server to reboot to finish the patching process. After starting back up the two lsfs devices under a specific target eventually went to a failed status after waiting a while for them to mount. I assumed one of the patches may have been the cause so I removed all 4 that were recently installed (and rebooted) but still no luck. I was originally at StarWind version 8.0.0.8198 (I think a 2 year old build now?) so I decided to upgrade to 8.0.0.11456 hoping that there might have been a bug fix that would fix the problem -- still no luck. So at this point, even after several restarts and rolling back all patches, I cannot get the two lsfs devices to mount.

Reviewing the logs I see a lot of errors such as "Grow Failed to access slot '700'! Slot index is out of possible range, max allowed index is '699'" but I'm not sure if that has any relevance. Happy to email the ZIP'd log file if that would help.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!

Hello, NanoGage.
In order to fix the issue, please follow these steps:
1) Stop StarWindService;
2) rename .splumap and .spvmap extension in folders where failed devices located;
3) Start Starwind service;
4) Wait for the mounting progress;
Let me know how it goes!

Sergey,

Thanks for the quick response!

Unfortunately I cannot find any .splumap or .spvmap files anywhere. The only file types where the failed devices are located are .spsp, .swdsk, and .spspx

Did you stop StarWindService? You can do it by running "net stop starwindservice" in Command Prompt (as Administrator)

I did stop it prior to checking for the files. I also stopped the two other services (StarWind VSS Provider Service and StarWind SMI-S Agent)

To be safe I rebooted the server, waited for the devices to fail again, and did the "net stop starwindservice" (which successfully stopped it) and there are still no .spvmap or .splumap files.

Hello NanoGage,
Could you please collect the logs using log collector from this KB article (https://knowledgebase.starwindsoftware. ... collector/) and log a support case here (https://www.starwindsoftware.com/support-form)? Please do not forget to add the link to this forum thread into the case.
Thanks!
