2 hosts, A and B. They use the product to replicate a simple shared folder.

A goes down, B takes over.
B runs for a week because of hardware changes in A.

A comes up again, but now B goes down.
Now A is stuck with old files because B can't replicate back.

A is forced to wait for B. How will VSAN Free deal with this scenario?

Thanks.

Hello!
...Now A is stuck with old files because B can't replicate back.

You need to run Production from host B because it contains the most recent data.
Just stop and disable StarWind service on host A (turn off the Production before), open StarWind Management Console on host B, right click on each device and choose "Mark as Synchronized". Everything will work from host B. Check the Production for data consistency. In case if everything is ok, enable and start StarWind service on host A - the full synchronization will start from host B to host A.

Thank you.

It turns out I can't use the Free version anyway. Based on external forums where I learned about StarWind VSAN it was indicated that I could use the free version on hypervisor hosts (hyper-converged?) but seems that is no longer the case. I tried chat support on the website and got an offer to use the Standard edition which unfortunately for me costs 2500 EUR.

Not that I want everything for free, but our small shop has a limited budget with 2 physical servers that today replicate a VM. I was hoping to set up cluster between them (using a temporary DC just for setting them up) using a with a failover VSAN in my case on the same phyiscal servers.

This may be easier with Server 2016, but we have 2012 R2 Standard licenses.

Hello,
Unfortunately, at this point, you can't build HyperConverged scenario (Hyper-V, VMs and StarWind VSAN in one box) with StarWind Free version. Currently, it is possible only in Trial, paid and NFR license.
Please check here https://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwi ... ense-users if you can get it for free!
