I have read through many of the posts and whitepapers and cant seem to find my answer. I apologize if the answer is out there somewhere obvious.

I am interested in setting up Virtual San with 2 nodes in a hyper-converged setup. My question is if I have 4 hosts, do all 4 have to be part of the setup? Or just 2 and the others connect to them for storage?

With regards to the networking, I want to put a 4 port, 1gbe adapter in each server. Can heartbeat, sync and i-scsi run over the 4 ports with an MPIO / Round Robin setup?

Thanks,

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

At this point, it is possible to build hyper-converged setup with 2 nodes only with the trial, NFR or paid StarWind VSAN license.
The step-by-step guide available here: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwi ... -v-cluster

If you will use free version on StarWind VSAN, then two servers can be used for HA shared storage and file share (for example, file share on Scale-out-File server) while other could use this share.
You can follow the step-by-step guide to build such setup: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/comput ... th-hyper-v

Since you plan to use 1Gbps interfaces, it is recommended to use MPIO/Failover Only policy and set loopback connection as active.
