Hi,
Let me start by saying I am a novice and I have been using this software (v6) without trouble for over a year until I decided to try and move my existing ImageFiles to a new larger hard disk.
I had used StarWind to share a 2Tb portable USB drive as iSCSI over our network for our server (SBS 2011 on esxi) to use as a backup drive and this worked perfectly.
The drive filled up and I would like to continue the same set up with my new 3Tb portable USB drive by extending the current imagefiles to fit the larger drive.
I quick formatted the new 3Tb drive (WD My Passport Ultra 3TB over usb3) NTFS (allocation unit size 4096 bytes)
I quit Starwind and stopped the service
copied the 2 ImageFiles over from the old 2Tb drive to the new 3Tb drive (5hours)
renamed the drive letter of the new drive as the old drive
restarted machine/starwind/service
in starwind I tried to remove the 2 old devices and add 2 new devices from the copied imagefiles on the new 3tb drive, but got the little red error symbols
copied the files from the old 2Tb drive to a local hard disk and the devices added fine with no red error symbols, so the original files are ok
copied the files from the new 3Tb drive to a local hard disk and the devices added fine with no red error symbols, so the copied files are ok
I tried making new imagefiles on the the 3Tb and I got an error, but did not get an error on my local drive.
StarWind doesnt seem to like my new 3Tb drive
is there a drive size limit?
have I formatted it correctly
I do feel out of my depth, so any help would be much appreciated
...I have since updated to starwind v8 with no difference
UPDATE: this appears to be a 512/4K sector size issue. I can't move the files from my old drive to use on the new drive, but I can create a new virtual image using 4096 byte sectors. I am now looking for a method of converting the old 512 files to 4k/4096.
