What I have done so far:

BTW: I did see a few unmap/trim in the logs before, but the size on disk was the same.

1) I deleted that lun, and created a new one in v8b7774 (1024GB in size)
using LSFS, with 128 L1 cache, 512 sector size, no option for dedup & defrag.
it created a few files:
ISOdisk2.spsp 12,288k
ISOdisk2.swdsk 4k
ISOdisk2_3.spspx 528384k
ISOdisk2_4.spspx 528384k

then I copy a VM(41.5GB) from my NFS to the iSCSI lun I just created.
I use esxi->config->storage->browse to do the copy and paste.

now I am up to ISOdisk2_73.spspx, when the copy was completed.
total size of my ISOdisk2 directory is now 35.7GB with 73 files.

So I went from 41.5GB on my NFS to 35.7GB on my iSCSI Lun. Nice :)
since I copy the VM I will have to add it to my inventory and power it up and do a little work like start a few program and close them and see how this new LSFS handle everything a can throw at it.

brb

Thanks.

the VM finish copy around 10:24:54 AM
I have imported the VM
started it
Login, and started a few program CCleraner/excel/word/acrobat, etc...
I was seeing IOPS been generated, but the size of the lun on disk did not change and still 73 files.

So I started IE, download and save cpu-z 1.7.x, then install it.
start it, and then close it.
I then shut down the VM. and every thing remain the same, still 73 files and 35.7GB. looks good.

anyway I will now remove the VM and then log into the esxi console and run the unmap command.

brb
Thanks.

BTW: The log files has showed that nothing has happen "2/27 10:24:53.868 ac0 S[29]: ~Session" since I copied the VM
and its now 12:55:34 PM.

I now deleted the VM from esxi using the vSphere Client.
no iops
no server log
no event
73 files with 35.7GB

but if I browse the iSCSI Lun, that VM is gone.

will now run the unmap command.

Thanks.

just ran the unmap command
"esxcli storage vmfs unmap -l VMDisks"

some iops 1475 , between 13:03 and 13:15
no event logs
server log a bunch of:
3/2 13:05:59.611 f38 Sw: *** DDDisk_Dispatch_WriteSameAndUnmap: SWCache_Discard( 1626112, 409600 ) failed, status == 0xC0000001!
to
3/2 13:08:10.455 eb0 Sw: *** DDDisk_Dispatch_WriteSameAndUnmap: SWCache_Discard( 659040256, 409600 ) failed, status == 0xC0000001!

73 files with 35.7GB on disk. So the unmap did not work.

Thanks.
