HA Device Failover/failback

I am running a 2 Node HA device for vsphere on two Windows 2012 starwind hosts. I disabled networking on the primary to simulate a server or networking outage. The device failed over to the second node successfully, didn't miss a beat, but upon restoring the primary the nodes wont synchronize so the secondary node remains active and I can't fail back to the primary.
Error " Failed: Connection with partner node invalid."
No logs other than those related to the HA device losting contact with the primary and failing over are present. Network connectivity between the primary and secondary host is present (able to ping), but HA device reports heartbeat as failed.
