Hi guys,

I lodged a case with starwind support a week ago, and havent heard anything back #00009166. I tried using the latest version of v6 on new server equipment, I was unable to format any LUNS from vsphere 5.1 using emulex controllers. So rather than wait for a fix (ive used older versions of v6 without issues, but my luns are already formatted) I then switched to using the candidate release of version 8, and that formatted vmfs5 LUNS just fine, so you have fixed something in v8.

So after testing single starwind SAN luns for about a week with no real problems, I have now tried creating a HA device in v8 across two servers (both which work fine independently), but whenever I try create a HA device, the starwind management console hangs on that server and can no longer connect to that starwind server, because the service becomes unresponsive. They only way to get it to respond again is to stop the starwind service (which it complains it cant, at which starwind service seems to terminate nastily) and you then have to restart it. I have managed to crash both nodes trying different approaches to get a HA device onto either server. I have tried creating partner devices both using the replication manager, under clusters and even creating a device on the partner server first.

This is the result I get every time, how can this be fixed?

Hi!
Well, that is weird - I`m sure that I sent you an email. Maybe it was blocked by something on it`s way. Anyway, I`m sorry that it happened and thank you for giving us the heads up.

To investigate your issue we need following information:
*StarWind log on the time of the issue
* .mdmp file if was created (it should be in the StarWind installation folder)
*StarWind build number
you can post everything here or send the message directly to me by PM or email (av@starwind.com)

Thank you
Best regards,

Thanks,

I have sent you the log via email just now. The build is StarWind iSCSI SAN v8.0.0 (Build 20140225) as show in the logs. There is no mdmp file in the install folder.

I think I may see part of the problem, in the log its saying in the log that the HAImage1 device is not allowed by the license. It is registered with our new unlimited 2 node HA license though as shown in the attached screenshot which says it allows for HAImages, and it is a HA version. It appears to be a licensing/bug problem, but its pretty confusing just crashing like that. I tried re-registering the software on both servers, stopping & starting the services, the result is the same. I sent a screenshot of the registration screen via email. How can we fix it?

Thanks.

It looks like we have isolated the problem.

We will include the fix to this issue into RC2 of v8 but for now you need to use devices smaller then 2TB. I`m sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the response. Do you have an ETA on RC2 so I can plan?

for the record, I believe this is the same issue I had when first testing v8. Bohdan got one to create, but I could never repeat his success...
he attributed my first error to a multiple ip/nultiple gateways).
good to hear someone else has this issue, and you've found the cause.

We want to have v8 released until the middle of May.
Right now you can use v6 for production, and upgrade it to v8 once it`ll be released.

I`ve just got update from R&D - can you try to use the devices <=2TB?

Yes, I can create HA devices <2TB OK, so I will settle with that for now.

I have also found a few more issues, but nothing critical. OK If I post them on the forum?
