License Issue

Hi there,

I've recently started at a new job and have inherited two StarWind Free installations. I'm having an issue when I try to log into the Management Console on both servers as I am getting prompted for a license key which I do not have. StarWind is working OK as we have LUNs presented to our ESX servers and I don't want to cause any disruption like stopping the service, for example. I don't know if this is possible when changing/adding license keys if I use the wrong key.

Can I just download another free key from the website and use that? I didn't know if the keys were version specific or not. Looking at the .exe files I suspect we have version 5.8.0.1047. There is an old licensekey.swk on the server but it's just in a temp folder and looks like it was copied there some time ago and as I said, I didn't want to risk any disruption by using the wrong key.

Any help gratefully received!

Many thanks,
Pete

Hi Pwow,
You can use either a free key associated with your account (login to your customer portal at http://www.starwindsoftware.com/login). Then go to the free product download page and re-download your free key.
If you accidentally apply a wrong key the software won't stop or block any connections.
So there is nothing to be nervous about.

Hi Max,

OK, thanks, I will give that a go. I only asked because while browsing the site this morning and I'm sure I saw a free key that said it must only be used with v6 software. Because we have 5.8, I just wanted to check to make sure I wouldn't break anything.

Regards,
Pete
