Hello,

We have been using the free version of StarWind 5.7 for some time now and seem to have come across a serious problem with one of our growing images. The image has been raw mapped to an ESXi 5 system and formatted with NTFS and at last check it was holding around 4TB of data.

This morning the Event Log was full of bad block warnings. Our first reaction was to perform a CHKDSK from the drive properties but it exited without any message. We've rebooted off a startup CD and received the following message from a CHKDSK /f

> Readable file records segment 8 is not writable.

From what we have read this is an issue with the Security Descriptor and that the course of action involves the hard drive manufacturers utility (such as seatools) to diagnose.

Looking at the StarWind log, there are IBVolume_IoCompleted: IoReq errors recorded.

What would you recommend for the next step in trying to recover the data from the volume?

Dear tjw,

First of all you are using old version of our software - we are always recommending to keep your SAN (and all other software of cource) up to date. You can download the latest build of StarWind by using the link below:

Also, could you please provide us with StarWind logs (you can find them in the /logs folder in StarWind installation folder) and the screenshot of the directory where the IBV related files are located. I will ask you to send logs and screenshots to support@starwindsoftware.com.

Thank you
