Hello,
is there a best practice guide for using dedup ?

my plan is to use dedup on the same machine, starwind is running.
the dedup target is mounted local.

can i use 127.0.0.1 to mount the target ? ( performance ? / does dedup work over loopback interface ? )

how can i test dedup is working ?

Hi Norman,
As of now we don't have any guidelines for deduplication best practices,
Usually our customers choose the deduplication block depending on the block size used by their applications + overall recommendations regarding the RAM required for the DDDisk to work properly.
for 1 TB DDDisk:
3.5 GB RAM - 4K deduplication block size
1.7 GB RAM - 8K deduplication block size
850 MB RAM - 16K deduplication block size

As for the loopback - you can use it locally if you like, please mind that your performance will be limited by your NIC throughput.
The best way to see how deduplication is working is to write 5 similar VMs on it and see the resulting volume:)
