Forgot Password - what next?

I installed StarWind 5.7 and changed the default root password to something else.
Now I forgot the password and cannot login anymore.
I see in the log-file, that the user is root, simple and the encrypted password.
Anything I can do without lossing the productive data on the disks?
What happens if the system is restarted?

There's no way to recover "root" password you've forgot (StarWind, UNIX, NT - they are all the same from this point of view...)
Data files are not linked in any way with the password. You just need to keep data files and uninstall / reinstall StarWind.

Hallo,
to get it right, if I uninstall StarWind and do not want to loose image-files:
1. should I shutdown all machines (CSVs)?
2. uninstall StarWind
3. reinstall StarWind (and this time remember the password

)
4. reconfigure everything from the beginning? or is there a export/import for the config?
Additional question, I have seen that with the new version 5.8 the HA will also support basic img-files.
Since in our case we additionally would like to switch from the Free Edition to the HA Edition, any info about the schedule of 5.8 and so on?

Yes, the procedure is correct, and yes, you need to configure from beginning.
5.8 should be released in first month of next year.
