Hi all,
I need some help with configuration for Starwind with HA storage, how many subnets for iSCSI for MPIO ?
I have SAN1 and SAN2 with Starwind on top of the Windows server 2008 R2 with 2 X1G on board NICs and Intel Gigabit ET Quad Port Server Adapter with 4X1G for iSCSI traffic, and ESX1,ESX2,ESX3 with same configuration for NICs (2 X1G on board NICs and Intel Gigabit ET Quad Port Server Adapter with 4X1G for iSCSI).
IP address for SAN1:
-192.168.1.3 to connect to switch iSCSI SW 1
-192.168.100.1 to connect to SAN2
- for MPIO: 192.168.1.1
192.168.2.1
192.168.3.1
192.168.4.1
IP address for SAN2:
-192.168.2.3 to connect to switch iSCSI SW 2
-192.168.100.2 to connect to SAN1
- for MPIO: 192.168.1.2
192.168.2.2
192.168.3.2
192.168.4.2
Both switches are from Dell and are manage.
I need to know if the target have to has two IP address one for SAN1 and one for SAN2 and for Fail Over how the host knows that the target is on ather IP?
Thanks in advance for your help.

To make this post more clear. We need help with IP configuration. Not sure if the sync channel and heartbeat channel are the same, if they need separate subnets etc. Can the heartbeat channel also be a sync channel or no ?
HOST1 Network config:
ISCSI1:192.168.1.10
ISCSI2:192.168.2.10
ISCSI3:192.168.3.10
ISCSI4:192.168.4.10
HOST2 Network config:
ISCSI1:192.168.1.20
ISCSI2:192.168.2.20
ISCSI3:192.168.3.20
ISCSI4:192.168.4.20
HOST3 Network config:
ISCSI1:192.168.1.30
ISCSI2:192.168.2.30
ISCSI3:192.168.3.30
ISCSI4:192.168.4.30
SAN1 Network config:
SYNC CHANNEL: 192.168.100.1
HEAT BEAT CHANNEL:192.168.200.1
ISCSI1:192.168.1.1
ISCSI2:192.168.2.1
ISCSI3:192.168.3.1
ISCSI4:192.168.4.1
SAN2 Network config:
SYNC CHANNEL: 192.168.100.2
HEAT BEAT CHANNEL:192.168.200.2
ISCSI1:192.168.1.2
ISCSI2:192.168.2.2
ISCSI3:192.168.3.2
ISCSI4:192.168.4.2
Let me know if this is how it`s supposed to look like..
Thanks

No, the Heartbeat and Sync Channel should be on different Data Links.
All the rest seems to be OK.

cool thanks. So Heartbeat and SYN different link and also subnets I guess ?
How is the host pointing to an HA target ? What IP is it pointing... I don`t understand when HOST1 point to this HA target that`s refering to IP of SAN1 ..then SAN 1 goes down how`s the HOST1 finding the target on SAN2 ?
I hope my question makes some sense.
