Hello.

I want to know if my hardware config is right:

SAN1
Starwind 5.4
HP DL180G6
Xeon quad core 2,2
6 GB of memory
5 hd SATA 7.2 RPM RAID 5
8 nics Gbe Intel (2 for sync/6 for ESX Access)
Jumbo Frames Activated
Last drivers on nics

SAN1
Starwind 5.4
HP DL180G6
Xeon quad core 2,2
6 GB of memory
5 hd SATA 7.2 RPM RAID 5
2 nics Gbe Intel (1 for sync/1 for ESX Access)
Jumbo Frames Activated
Last drivers on nics

Copy of any file in virtual machines is 1-2 MB/s, same VM´s on Openfiler 40 MB/s.

2 Switch Procurve 1810G with Jumbo Frames activated.

Jumbo Frames activated on ESX 4.1.

Any idea?

StarWind HA is a Synchronous solution while Openfiler is just a virtual IP failover.
1. Make your configuration synchronous (equal amount of NICs on both servers)
2. If there is an option - avoid using raid3-4-5 unless you're more paranoid about your data then about your performance.
3. Turn off the Jumboframes
4. Ensure that your HA is configured properly

Hi,

thank you for fast response.

RAID1 is the most properly option?

Where turn off the Jumboframes, on ESX, on SAN, on switch, all?

Thank you for all.

The best RAID level will be one which delivers the best performance.
Jumboframes should be switched off everywhere.

In some cases the optimization can work the opposite way :)
In the 5.5 we have made some tweaks to increase the throughput on regular networks, however those sometimes interfere with the JF's and modified TCP stack.

Is this a new rule? or is this related to OpenFiler + ESX only?

This is for the particular case only, I can't tell anything about Openfiler tweaks
