I'm setting up a new SAN using SW Ent 5.4.

I have 4 SCSI LUNs in the primary server that I will be making into targets for various uses, including Hyper-V CSVs.

At a later date I will be adding a similar server (same physical storage capacity) and would like this second server to be an Async Replicated "passive" backup.

I have experience with SW, just not the Async Replication aspect.

I'd like to do this right the first time and am looking for something of a step by step guide on how to setup the Primary server so that it's ready to have the backup added. I'd also like to setup things like cacheing correctly for async rep.

Thansk,

Robert

Hello Robert,
We are working on this guide now, i think it will be ready in the nearest future.
Basic steps for implementing async replication are:
1.Disconnect the targets from the clients
2.Remove the targets
3.Create image files on the remote servers with an appropriate size (these will be the remote mirrors)
4.Create mirror devices on the primary servers using existing images as first (active) mirrors and the images from the remote servers as secondary mirrors.
5.Synchronize the devices
6.Reconnect the devices to the client servers
