Is there anyway to copy a pre-existing image to both HA partners and uset that image for a new HA target without the need for a full sync? I have a 600gb image that I would like to move over to an HA target but I don't want to have to resync everything if I don't have to. I was thinking that since both files were the same that perhaps Starwind would see that and allow me to just do a fast sync. Is this possible?

Yes, you can. You can either use fast sync or don`t sync at all, but I would recommend you to sync them

Excellent news, fast sync works just fine. I'm running into an issue where under HA the disks are showing that they are not initialized and the system wants to format them. If I mount the img as a standard target I can see the files just fine. I may have to e-mail support for a copy of the lastest 5.5 beta and see if that resolves my issue.

Please, do it! Send us logs from StarWind`s folder, detail your configuration and steps. And add link to this topic.

Well I thought fast sync worked but in fact Starwind zeroed both disks eventhough I told it not to sync the disks prior.

StarWind couldn`t delete all data on disks by itself. Please what did you do?

I created a basic target just to make sure all the data was on the disk, it mounted fine and shows me all my data. I then remove that target and I create a new HA target, selected the same image I used prior, told starwind which server was primary and secondary, told starwind "do no syncronize disks" clicked next then finished. Attached to target with client and i'm prompted to initialize my disk. If I then take the same image and create a new basic target I'm asked to initialize the disk again. So what went wrong when I created the HA target? Oh I also tried creating the HA target and syncing the partner disk with the current server disk and I have the same issue.

You cannot use basic image file devices as source for HA devices. They have different header size.

So If I have data that's in a basic image file and I want to move over to HA what's the best path to take?

Simply copy data from image device to HA device, as you do it with disk-2-disk.

Ok I have things working now. I did run into an issue once where restarting one node cause starwind to crash on the other node but it onoy happened once. I also did a backup of the volumes on the basic image and restored those volumes on the new HA image. I still have an issue where a restart of the starwind service causes duplicate and triplicate ACL entries.

What is your problem with ACL?

On occasions when I either restart the Starwind service or the server itself, the ACL's will have duplicate and triplicate entries. So say I have 4 rules in my ACL, upon restart I can have as many as 12 ACL's shown. I have to go in and figure out which one is the correct one and delete the others.

Yes I'm using 5.2 on both servers. I'm hoping 5.5 will fix this.
