I have the free StartWind target software loaded on a 32bit W2K3 SP2 Std. server with a 350GB target LUN created. On another 32bit W2K3 SP2 Ent. server I am using version 2.06 of the standart Microsoft iSCSI initiator. I'm trying to copy a folder containing 2 very large Oracle database files to a newly created StarWind iSCSI drive from an EMC NS22 iSCSI drive. These files are 117GB and 127GB respectively in size. Using the XXCOPY command I see that just when around 72GB of data has been transferred the XXCOPY command fails and also fails on the next file. When I try to copy the files using the Windows Explorer GUI it show the progress screen about the same time that the XXCOPY indicates it is copying the file and then give me an error message stating insufficent resources. Where is the problem here? Do I need to upgrade to version 2.08 of the initiator or switch to the StarPort initiator? Is there a buffer setting that needs modified? Please help.

Thank you,

John Gallucci

John,

Please make sure that you are using the latest build of StarWind which is available at http://www.starwindsoftware.com/downloa ... arwind.exe

If the problem still persists, please try using StarPort instead of MS Initiator.

If the problem is not solved, please send us the log files from C:\Program Files\StarWind Software\StarWind\logs to support@starwindsoftware.com

Thanks

Can the MS Initiator co-exist with the StarWind Initiator?

Still using the MS Initiator, but now using the latest StarWind target software release, I was able to copy a 117GB file without error. But the file with 126GB in size failed. I used the same XXCOPY command for the transfer as before. This MS Initiator ver. 2.06 has no problem with these files on the EMC Celerra NS22 where I'm trying to copy from. I have loaded the StarPort Initiator to connect to the target drive. The MS Initiator is still connecting my source drive to the NS22. I will try the XXCOPY operation again tonight. If I still get a failure, I will send the StarWind logs to support.

Robert,

Using the StarPort initiator the server crashed after just copying only 5GB of the first large database file which was 117GB. I got an System Error with Event ID 1003, Category 102, Type Error and the following Description text: "Error code 1000007f, parameter1 00000008, parameter2 f1f87ff0, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. I thought that maybe Trend Micro's OfficeScan 8.1 antivirus may be the culprit so I disabled the antivirus services and tried the copy again. I got the same result, and I'm using the latest downloads of StartWind target and StarPort initiator software. I switched back to the MS Initiator with the AV still turned off and all of the files copied with out any failures. I have turned AV back on, this time making sure that the Oracle database folder was excluded from the Real Time scanning process. So far our Oracle database is working perfectly using the MS Initiator and the latest StarWind target software. After doing a complete backup I was pleased to see a backup time identical to when the database files were located on our EMC NS 22 SAN.

Our server is running MS Server 2003 Enterprise SP1 with 12GB of RAM with Oracle 10g R1.

Since everything is working fine, I don't want to change anything. I hope you understand.

Thank you,

John,

We are glad everything is working with MS Initiator. Since everything is working perfectly, there is certainly no sence in re-configuring anything.

Thanks
