Hello,

I don't know starwind ability to do this or not.
I want to export my harddisk to iSCSI and client can read and write anything on it, but what my client do it will not synchronize data to my server. Sound like “Continues Data Protection”. When my server written new data on harddisk, I just restart my client’s pc, new data can be seen. Starwind can do such like this ? I'm planning to use starwind on my cybercafe's server.

Thank You !

Hi,

Not really sure I am following your description correctly...

Can you provide a step-by-step description of your actions?

Thanks
Rob

Hello,

Sorry because my english is not good, hope you will understand. Do u heard "CCDISK" this software ? What I want is same with this software. I would like to use starwind instead of ccdisk on my cybercafe's server.
I want to export my harddisk to iSCSI on my server's side, same like SPTI or Diskbridge. On my client's side, I can read and write to the iSCSI drive, what I written on the iSCSI drive, the data will not synchronize back to my server. Thats mean my server's harddrive no changes. Unlike SPTI or DiskBridge, if I do any changes on the iSCSI drive on client's side such as format, delete file, on my server's side also will do this changes. I tried using SPTI and Diskbridge with "read-only mode", if I do any changes on the iSCSI harddrive on my client's side, prompt out "Media is protected......".

Thank You !

Hello,

We much looks like you are connecting to the same target from 2 initiators (Client and the server) without using a clustered file system.

Please note that if you are creating concurrent connection and data read/write mode by simultaneous access of several initiators to the same image file or an image file, this is not recommended. This will cause data corruption and make the data inside the file inconsistent.

In order to avoid this, you can do one of the following:

- Either create separate image files per every initiator and allow one connection only per image, or
- Use Cluster services (such as MS Cluster Service), dedicated SAN file systems (Data Plow SFS, etc.) or software, allowing NTFS to be used as SAN
file system (MetaSAN, or alike).

You can refer to the documentation on using MetaSAN and Dataplow to share iSCSI targets:

http://www.starwindsoftware.com/images/ ... nd_SFS.pdf

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks

Hello,

Once again thank you for your reply. I want all my game install in my gameserver and export it to my client. That's mean all client's pc only installed windows without game data. Image file is most suitable for use ? I think it is not easily for daily update game. All game installation and update are working on server only.

Thank You !

Hello,

Yes, using image file with enabled clustering would be the best option.

But in this case you would definately need a cluster file system on the target (not NTFS or FAT). DataPlow SFS may help you achieve this.

Thanks,
