Dear Support,

I am a potential customer of StarWind iSCSI software and I am evaluating the application with Symantec Backup Exec 10d.

We are considering to use your application with Symantec Backup Exec 10d “Disk-to-Disk” backup option (for File Server) for efficient backup and restore & Snapshot facility.

I installed the application of a Windows 2003 Server with 500 GB disk capacity, in which I have allocated 100 GB for “IBVolume Device (Snapshots), Growing Image” for backup and immediate snapshots. The Disk then added to Backup Exec 10d Servers with the help of MS iSCSI initiator configured for access.

I am receiving mentioned below error in Backup Exec Log:

Job Completion Status:
Job ended: Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 7:34:06 PM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33994

An inconsistency was encountered on the storage media in Backup-to-Disk Folder i-scsi.
V-79-57344-33994 - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.

As per Symantec error code [ ... ]

If this error occurs on a backup-to-disk (B2D) folder:
1. Try backup on a new backup-to-disk folder.
2. Check the hard drive capacity.
3. Look for errors referencing the hard drive in the Windows Event Viewer.
4. Defragment the hard drive.
5. Run Scan-disk against the hard drive.

As per above mentioned log, I have noticed that backup performed successful (data size between source and destination ok, approx 20 GB), but upon verification it failed and turning OFF backup verification could compromise backup integrity. Moreover, iSCSI is still browseable.
Please note that the same backup job performed on tape with no errors.

Please advise on the issue.

Regards,

Abdul Rauf.
