scsi scanner

I have a scsi scanner that i want to share over our lan. Can you explain how do I that.

Did you rean paragraph 3.4.4 called "Sharing of a SCSI tape or scanner" from "SarWind configuration"?

Nice to hear this. Not so many people use our software for scanners

Hi Anton,

I have gotten round to having a look at scanners via your SPTI function now.
And guess what? I've run into a small problem at the first hurdle!

I (believe I) have a SCSI scanner correctly installed on an XP workstation.
I see this for the Windows Device manager showing a device at SCSI ID 5:

And this is the XP scanner properties dialog

As the test reports positive, I conclude that a device is present on \\.\Scanner0.
I also don't think that the "Status: (not available)" is significant?

However, when I run-up StarWind and open the SPTI, see this:

I am ignoring the two displayed devices (that just tells me that the SPTI can "see" something) ... but where is the \\.\Scanner0?

Can you offer any advice on where should I start looking?

"Specify symbolic link name manually" option is your friend.

Working a treat now. Thanks for a VERY rapid response.
Can I push my luck just a bit further? Why would the scanner not be auto-detected like the CD, Discs, Tapes etc?

Is it a problem with my scanner or the way the SPTI auto-detect works?

I guess because sharing SCSI scanner is the task quite far away from the mainsteam... We don't even have device here to test

I could lend you some. I think I must have cornered the market in SCSI scanners from eBay!!!

Anyway. My next problem has arrived. Why are the icons and Type different? \\.\Scanner0 shows the icon as a RAM device and not a Scanner
And the type is shown as "SPTI:Processor" and not "SPTI:Scanner"?

It probably is irrelevant, but the UMAX works and the Epson doesn't.

We're not interested as the market does not exist. Prefer to spend time on solutions brining money. We're not hobbists, we live from the sales.

Send us the logs as it's really no way to find out why one work and other doesn't.

It all (SPTI-style device sharing) makes sense for the modern Blu-Ray burners, expensive tape autoloaders etc. When doing redirection is financially more attractive then buying extra device. Nobody will buy $1K priced StarWind to redirect 50 bucks priced SCSI scanner from eBuy... And creating dedicated version for cheap does not make sense either - there are VERY few people willing to do it. So it's easier for us to have this support in "generic" and provide the people with the free (nearly) stuff if they want to to experiments with the scanner redirection. This is official management's position
