StarWind only accept the iSCSI connection from localhost

Dear RocketDivision Support,

I am setting up the lab environment. I got a strange situation here.

- The StarWind Target server only accept the StarPort connection from localhost 127.0.0.1
- I try to use StarPort locally together with StarWind server. I only can connect to the iSCSI disk by connecting to 127.0.0.1, not on the IP of hte NICs.
- The StarWind Target server and the StarPort client are located on the same VLAN. There is no firewall in between or enabled locally.
- There is not any StartPort able to connect to the StarWind Target on the network. I looks like the StarWind server only accept the iSCSI connection from localhost.
- I try to ping the IP address of the StarWind server. It replies.
- telnet the port 3260 on localhost of StartWind server. It replies.
- telnet the port 3260 on the IP of hte NICs of the StartWind server. It DOES NOT reply.
- I checked the switch VLAN configuration, which is correct.
- The iSCSI interface is a teaming NIC formed by two Intel Server NIC. (Teaming is removed at the moment, but still the same error.)
- StarPort is in use.
- No MS iSCSI initiator is in use.
- Do you have any idea that I can do more trouble shooting about this?
- Should I disable the teaming both on StarWind and StartPort servers?

Thanks in advanced,

BR,

Maverick

Hi,
- telnet the port 3260 on localhost of StartWind server. It replies.
- telnet the port 3260 on the IP of hte NICs of the StartWind server. It DOES NOT reply.
- I checked the switch VLAN configuration, which is correct.
It seems to be a network problem.

Check your client machine whether it allows outgoing iSCSI connections (to port 3260).

By default StarWind listens at any network interface. Check if the StarWind.cfg file includes <Interface value="0.0.0.0"/>.

Hi.
Please check if you have any IPSec policies assigned.
Administrative tools -> Local security policy -> IP Security policies on Local Computer.
Also please try: telnet <StarWind IP> 3261

Thanks for the quick response.

I checked. There is no IPSec policies assigned.

Telent to "<StarWind IP> 3261" has response, but I cannot use StarPort to connect to StarWind Server via the port.

But I got some error message from the license.

In most cases this error means that you registered several computers in your network with the same license.

Please read the information about Professional StarWind license type (http://www.starwindsoftware.com/download-free-trial).
Number of servers (physical or virtual machines) a single StarWind license can be installed on - 1.

Hi Bohdan,

Thanks for your support.

I already receive another license. I will try it...

For me, you can close the case.

On the other hand, I am tunning the performance of the StartPort Server. Because I only have 5Mbs speed... I will look into another thread first.

Thanks a lot.

Best Regards,

Maverick

Please re-configure your TCP/IP stack to handle iSCSI well. Default options are NOT optimal.

Hi Anton,

About "how to accelerate TCP/IP stack", do I have to do it on both StarWind and initiator or only StarWind target server?

Thanks in advanced.

Maverick

Both sides. Please contact support by e-mail and they should help you to handle that.
