Hi,

After searching the web and StarWind resource library there seems to be slightly different articles for different version of VSAN Free even though the articles do not refer to a specific version.

Regarding the enablement of iSER for RDMA all artciles seem to be related to the Hyper-V version using the Management Console which is not available for the Proxmox version even though the articles do not specifically state this.

The Proxmox CVM UI does not have the same iSER tick box under netowrking as per the Mangament Console UI.

Looking at these two artciles list the inconsitancies in litriture:

https://www.starwindsoftware.com/vsan-free-vs-paid
https://www.starwindsoftware.com/resour ... e-vs-paid/

iSER is only mentioned in the resource library link and states that it is available for the Free version and infers to all versions of VSAN but i am not able to find any articles on how to configure for the Proxmox CVM version.

The lniks also infer that NVMe-of is a current feature and is available but it is not.

Can any one assit on how to enable/configure iSER for the Proxmox and Starwind CVM as a VM?

Thanks

Welcome to StarWind Forum. I am very sorry to read that there is a confusion.
I'd strongly recommend to book a demo with someone from our end to go through the features and see how VSAN fits for your specific use case: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/v17-request-live-demo
VSAN free has core features in place, allowing to build hyperconverged systems with PowerShell at no cost.
Linux-based VSAN comes with a slightly different feature set as compared to VSAN for Hyper-V.
Regarding the enablement of iSER for RDMA all artciles seem to be related to the Hyper-V version
The Proxmox CVM UI does not have the same iSER tick box under netowrking as per the Mangament Console UI.
It works only for Hyper-V
Management Console which is not available for the Proxmox
You can always download and install Windows-based Management Console in StarWind VSAN CVM.
The lniks also infer that NVMe-of is a current feature and is available but it is not.
It is the feature, but not in VSAN 19551 CVM. It is in beta. Reach out to us to sign up for the beta program https://www.starwindsoftware.com/support-form (use this thread and 1318447) as your references.

Hi Yaroslav,

Just advising i have setup Starwind vSAN for Proxmox as a CVM VM and all is working.

I now want to do testing between standard TCP/IP vs iSER (RDMA) benchmarking in the absense of NVMe-oF on my hardware.

I am just confussed in understadning if iSER is an available option for the Proxmox vSAN CVM VM and if it is how do i do it as i can not find any information about it.

Regards

Stephen

Sadly, you can use iSER in a TRIAL license with StarWind VSAN deployed in a Windows VM or on dedicated Windows hosts.

Hi Yaroslav,

Sorry i am not using Windows VM or a Trail license i am using Proxmox with the Starwind CVM deployed as a VM and i am using the Free license. I just downloaded the Management Console and installed on a windows laptop. When i connect to a CVM the network options to enable iSER is greyed out.
With this information can you please advise?
Thanks

Sadly, iSER is a feature available only for Windows-based setups. The only way to try it is Trial + Windows.
p.s. iSER has always been an experimental feature. Please sign for NVMe-oF beta (I hope to see it for production soon :))
