Hi,

The problem:
1. Machine: W2K SP4 Server (German) with StarWind and "add \\.\Tape0" in the config file.

2. Machine: WXP SP1 Prof. Workstation (German) with StarPort. The remote tape drive was successfully created. Now I ┤d like to backup drive c with NTBACKUP. After a few seconds I get the error message (translated): The device reports an error during processing following comands: Error writing data onto medium... Errormessage: Illegal command.

3. Machine W2K SP4 Prof. Workstation (German) with StarPort. The remote tape drive was successfully created. The backup works fine...

Now then question: What┤s wrong with the combination W2K Server and WXP Prof.?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Hobe

Can you show StarWind's log file that shows the moment when NTBACKUP fails? (2)
Best regards,
Alexey.

Hobe,

I would kindly ask you

1)
run regedit.exe, go to

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\StarWindService\Parameters

key and edit string named

"CommandLine". You should see something like this:

"C:\Program Files\Rocket Division Software\StarWind\StarWindService.exe
-l0
-cC:\Program Files\Rocket Division Software\StarWind\starwind.conf
-o"

please change "-l0" parameter to "-l1". This would raise log level from default 0 (only critical errors) to 1 (some extended debug information).

2) Restart StarWind Service typing

"net stop StarWindService" and "net start StarWindService" in the command console.

3) Rerun your actions resulting problems.

4) Send us log.

Thank you very much for cooperation! We appreciate you help in making our software better!

:)

Hobe,
please change "-l0" parameter to "-l1".
Actually it would be much better if you set the logging level to 3 - all messages (i.e. -l3) and repeat the problem. Then I will have much more detalied information. Thank you.
Best regards,
Alexey.
