Hi,
I was using StarPort v.3.6.3 an a Windows 2003 Server and a Thecus N5200 (size 3.8 Tb). It was working very well.
I chose StarPort iSCSI initiator because it can handle partitions size larger than 2Tb and Microsoft iSCSI initiator don't.

I added a new Thecus N7700 (size 8 Tb) and I upgraded StarPort to version v.4.2.
The disks are recognized and mounted well. But when I use the new one Windows freezes.

When I transfert from a local disk to the big partition managed by StarPort v.4.2, the system freeze after a few gigs of transfert.
When I transfert from the big partition managed by StarPort v.4.2 to a local disk, the system becomes non responding butthe transfert occurs and the system is Ok again after the transfert.

When I copy a big file on the big partition managed by StarPort v.4.2, the system freeze after a fews megs of transfert.

The old Thecus N5200 (size 3.8 Tb) seems to work well.

Do you have any limitations with partitions larger than 4 Tb ? Do you have any recomendations about slice size ou block size ?

Thank for your help !

For such big storage devices we recommend to use MS iSCSI initiator.

As far as I know MS iSCSI initiator is limited to 2 Tb partitions.

I made another test with partition smaller than 4 To (3,8 To) and the problem is still there. My server freezes when I write on the new iSCSI device (Thecus n7700 pro).

Last time I tested MS iSCSI initiator on Windows 2003 Server, the partition size was limited to 2 To. This is why I use StarPort.
I will check again ...

You are right, I am wrong.
Microsoft iSCSI initiator is able to handle big partitions 4 To or 8 To. It works.
And my W2K3 Server does not freeze anymore with Microsoft iSCSI initiator and the Thecus N7700 Pro.

The strange thing, and this is why I was so confused, is my old Thecus N5200 (with a 4 To partition) does not works with Microsoft iSCSI initiator, but works with Starport iSCSI initiator. This is why I thought Microsoft iSCSI initiator was limited to 2 To.

I don't understand either problems, but I think they are solved !

Great to hear, that all works.
