Disk Event ID 15 Errors

I have a windows Server 2003 SP2 server that is connected to a Coraid SR1521 by starport AoE Initiator. I have been getting several Event ID 15 Errors in the event logs of the server. I don't see any crash dumps from starport. The config is this:

Coraid SR1521
15 1TB Seagate Disks 14 in a Raid 5 array
11.6 TB Drive in Windows

I am just wondering if I should be concerned about these disk errors that I am seeing

This means emulated disk is not ready. Something wrong is with either StarPort or CoRAID box or your network... Let's find out what exactly. So:

1) Check collisions ratio.

2) Check CoRAID own logs.

3) Send us StarPort log.

Thanks!

Log Questions

I have checked for collisions and there are none.

I have checked the coraid logs and there are no errors or any issues.

Where are the logs located? Starport is running as a service

Is there an issue with using write caching in windows?

1) Good.

2) Good.

3) StarPort is NOT a service. It's a driver. Please check %Program Files%\Rocket Division Software\StarPort folder for Logs subfolder and send us it's zipped content.

Yes. If Windows cannot flush cache for more then 30 seconds it purges it and says "Write failed". But with GbE network it's virtually no way to see this. What performance can you achieve with your current configuration?

I am using bound volumes the logs all show the same thing. I have attached the logs from the folder that you requested.

So should I have write caching disabled in windows for AoE devices?

1) Got the logs, thank you!

2) Yes. But I think we need to troubleshoot the issue AS IS.

Troubleshooting as is works for me. Also I left out in my previous posts that I am copying mostly small files to this unit but it will sustain about 400-425 Mbps with no issue.

Have you made any progress on this? I still haven't heard anything back.

Thank you

hi,

Our test-lab is trying to reproduce the problem with our Coraid SR1521 and the recent StarPort.

Could you tell us the scenario(s) when the problem occurs?

Thank you for you feedback and your patience.

It happens at random times in small groups, and now I am also getting event ID 55 errors from source NTFS

It seems that the volume is corrupted by the previous errors.
Event ID: 55
Source: NTFS
Description: The file system structure on disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume.

I'd suggest you to backup all files from the volume and run chkdsk against it.

It seems some files are corrupted if the error event 55 is reported...

There is a hotfix for microsoft about the Event ID 55's I can't run checkdisk right now because it will take too long. Is this something that you have seen before or is this the only time that you have seen these errors with an SR1521 and StarPort?

Only after the most recent firmware for CoRAID devices is applied...
