StarWind Tape Redirector

Hi All,

I am trying to figure out what to do here... even to the point of just getting started. So here is the situation. I have a physical server with Win2016 Server and a Hyper-V Win2016 Server. I am trying to get it so that the VM will have Backup Exec on it and will backup to the LTO6 Tape Drive attached to the physical server. I have the StarWind Tape Redirector and the Management Console installed on both the physical and the VM servers because I am just not getting it. I cannot get the Tape Drive to detect on the VM. I have looked at the diagrams that make no sense to me, nor to the configuration that I have. I don't know anything past the initial installs of the StarWind software.

While being on the physical server, I have made the tape drive a target. So it knows it's there, but from there I have no other clue.... documents talk about making storage pools and I am not sure what to do about that and which server I am supposed to configure the VM target\device. Sorry for the ignorance about this stuff. :)

So, with that, please help me with this as I have no more clues.

Thanks!!

Once your tape drive becomes an iSCSI target, make sure to discover the target portal in your VM and then connect your iSCSI target there.

I am not sure what you mean by target portal. I don't have one. I will show you via screen shots what I have so far.

You need to open Microsoft iSCSI Initiator in the VM where you are going to use BackupExec to write to LTO tapes redirected by StarWind. The second tab called Discovery is where you discover the target portal by using the IP address of the server where StarWind is installed for target portal, Microsoft iSCSI initiator for Local Adapter under Advanced menu, and your VM's IP for Initiator IP:

This solved the issue for me. Strange, I never had this problem before.
