Anyway to speed up the transfer to tape?

Host Server: Windows Server 2012R2 Standard
Virtual Machine: Windows Server 2012R2 Standard
Backup Software: Microsoft DPM 2012 R2
Tape Library: Dell PowerVault tl1000
The issue that we are having is backups seem to be running about: 446 mb/minute. We were getting speeds a LOT faster before we moved over to using the tape redirector. Any suggestions on what we can do to get faster backup speeds?
