I'm happy to say that, after a couple of sessions the StarWind support team did a marvelous job of isolating the problem to an older SAN connect disk controller, a Xyatex 5412. I've been able to remove the device by moving my virtual machines and the StarWind software is installed and happily serving my tape devices.

So . . . this install had nothing whatsoever to do with Windows Storage Server 2012 R2. The current kit works just fine on Storage Server. :)

Thanks!
