I got the Starwind Tape Redirector installed on Hyper-V 2012 core (free version) fully patched as of 8-15-2013.

But when I go to start the StarWindManagementConsole.exe I get a Application unable to start correctly. (0xc0000007b) popup window and the app doesn't start.

The Starwind service is running.

I also had to copy oledlg.dll from c:\windows\system32\ from a Windows 2012 to the server to get the program installed.

It's going to be embedded into setup application. More convenient then providing a list :)

When to expect this? Should I uninstall the version I have now?

Everyone says your product is great. I am hoping to implement it this week/next.

Please stick with the current config. We'll re-package Tape Redirector after V8 beta.

How do I get this one to work now? All I get is the error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.

Did I have to have some prerequisite installed? .net3.5 or .net2 or some .dll?

Right now you can install the iSCSI SAN product with the trial license key, and use the SPTI feature to export the tapes. If this will work for you let us know and we`ll figure something out for you.

I will give it a try.

System is a basic, fresh install of Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 free edition.

CONFIRMED.

Both of these products do not install or run on the Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 free or the new Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 R2 free.

First issue is the missing oledlg.dll in both the c:\windows\system32 and c:\windows\sysWOW64 directories. Will not even install without those.

Second issue is the 0xc0000007b error trying to run the program.

I did 4 fresh installs of both again today. First thing I did before anything was to try to install Starwinds full and Starwinds redirector.

domaincontact,
StarWind Management Console can't be run on Core versions of Windows. Please install it to any other machine on the network for managing Tape Redirector server.
Service part remains on Hyper-V 2012 core server, and Management console can be installed to any other machine. Make sure to remove check from "iSCSI Server" option during installation of Management Console.
Best regards,
Alexey.

Here is they way I was going to use the Tape Redirector.

1. Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 free server with SCSI installed and Scalar 50 robotic tape library hooked up.
2. Unitrends backup Virtual Machine on the Hyper-V server.
3. Install StarWind Tape Redirector on Hyper-V server.
4. Present Unitrends VM with the redirected tape library to it can Archive data to it.

So you guys are saying that once I get the oledlg.dll copied over and get the program installed (minus the Management program) then install the Management program on my workstation. Then control it from there.

I will give it a try.

Yes, it is.
And you don't need to copy oledlg.dll. This message is generated by Management Console due to errors caused by core version limitations.
Best regards,
Alexey.
